A new affordable housing scheme is being developed for Platform Housing Group, in the popular market town of Newent, Gloucestershire. The development on Watery Lane features 40 new affordable homes, half of the homes being made available as affordable rental properties and the remaining 20 offered to local people as shared ownership homes.
WP Housing worked alongside MF Freeman, a leading regional developer and housebuilder, this opportunity was secured through a two-stage tender process. This approach enabled Platform Housing to de-risk the land before acquisition and achieve a highly competitive build cost offered by Tricas Construction.
The project has transformed the unutilised sloping site through extensive groundwork. A sensitive site layout has allowed the project to blend seamlessly with its surrounding landscape and complement the existing adjacent buildings
The affordable rent properties will consist of 1-bed flats, and a mix of 2 and 3-bed houses, while the shared ownership properties will comprise 2 and 3-bed houses. The shared ownership properties will be available with an initial share purchase from as little as 10% helping more households to take their first step onto the housing ladder.
