WP-Housing is proud to be the Employer’s Agent for Platform on an important 100% affordable housing scheme at Watery Lane, Newent. This development will deliver 40 much-needed homes in the area, ensuring high-quality, affordable housing for the community. Situated on a sloping site, the project has presented unique technical and logistical challenges, particularly in surface water drainage management, requiring careful planning and innovative solutions.
Our role as Employer’s Agent has been extensive, providing Technical Due Diligence to support land acquisition, ensuring that all planning, legal, and environmental factors were carefully assessed. We also delivered pre-contract contractual and cost advice, working to secure a robust procurement strategy while maximising value for our client. Post-contract, we continue to manage the project comprehensively, ensuring smooth delivery despite unforeseen obstacles.
A significant challenge arose when the initial contractor unfortunately became insolvent, creating risks around programme delays, legal and financial implications, and site security. WP-Housing played a pivotal role in navigating these challenges, working closely with legal teams, warranty providers, and local authorities to protect both the client and the development. Our expertise in managing contractual, financial, and compliance matters ensured that liabilities were mitigated, and the project remained viable.
Following a swift and effective re-procurement process, we successfully appointed Aqua Construction as the new contractor and worked diligently to remobilise the site. Despite these setbacks, our proactive approach ensured that the project remained aligned with key programme requirements, minimising disruption and maintaining quality standards.
Now firmly back on site, the scheme is progressing well and remains on course for a high-quality finish. By leveraging our extensive industry knowledge and problem-solving expertise, WP-Housing has ensured that this development continues to move forward with confidence, delivering modern, sustainable, and affordable homes for the Newent community.
